Hello, hoping you’re well and safe.
This past weekend I led a hatha practice that focused on the second of five yamas. We incorporated back bends that lengthened and strengthened the spine while also making room for areas unknowingly holding on to past and current experiences, grief…even people, all presenting themselves as opportunities to better understand why we’re feeling the way we are.
2. Satya – Truthfulness
Satya means being truthful to others in both words and actions, not telling lies and following a path that is true and honest.
Truthfulness means making true statements about something or somebody, very important for developing trust and building lasting relationships among people.
Honesty is to tell the truth at all times even at personal risk to oneself.
Yoga Sutra 2.36: By being truthful, whatever action you take will be successful.
Journaling Prompt: Think of a time this past week when you may have compared yourself to others or tried to one-up someone. Why did you feel the need to do this?
Something to Consider: Create a “to-be” list”. This is an alternative to a to-do list. Halfway through the day pause and take a minute to truthfully ask yourself how am I being right now. Understanding? Defensive, or open minded? Dismissive or kind? Try to maintain it on a discreet posted on your desk or wherever you are likely to see it to keep your intentions in check.
Take good care,
Natasha
